This elegant wall hanging clock is of 30 hour duration and was designed by the author as a beginner's project. The construction was carried out on the TOYO 210 lathe including all the wheelcutting and engraving the dial. It could of course be made on any of the small compact lathes such as the Unimat 4. The escapement is the semi circulus or strob as used by Richard of Wallingford in the St. Albans clock. This escapement employs a double escape wheel, each with radial pins in its periphery and it is used in conjunction with a foliot as the oscillator. The movement is designed for a single hand but after many requests a minute hand was added later. Optional alarm work is also described. The materials are all readily available from suppliers given in the book. This is an excellent project for the first time clockmaker The book contains 52 pages and over 160 photographs and line drawings.     J Wilding
