This clock has proved one of my most popular designs (the
original book ran to 6 editions). The opportunity has been taken here to
update the information on the material suppliers, to correct errors in the
text and drawings and to include four appendices which cover gaps in the
original description. Most important is the provision of a full size and
accurate drawing of the frames which can be cemented to the brass sheet and
used as a template for cutting out the profile. Also included in the text is a
full description on the construction of an English pattern mainspring winder.
This handsome clock has 'one-at-the-hour' striking. The original was housed
under a Perspex cover, but I am glad to say that glass shades are available
(address in the text) and the appearance is greatly improved by the use of a
traditional dome. The attractive bell is also available. The construction is
illustrated using the Myford ML 7 lathe but the clock can easily be made on
one of the smaller lathes such as the Unimat 3. The clock is fitted with
maintaining work and runs for eight days on a winding.
